In issue 7,we concentrated on skip permits…. a subject dear to your hearts I’m sure. We printed a random list of Councils and the fees they charged and asked you to get in touch and let us know what your local authorities charged and how long it takes to obtain one. We thus far have had a great response and a massive thank you to all those who have taken the time to e-mail, write in and phone…. but we still want more! After taking the relevant advice we are now putting together a petition to present to DEFRA and the Government stating why we feel that permit fees are unfair and just another tax on a company that already pays to have public liability insurance!
To do this we need you guys to come forward and tell us your views, grievances and comments regarding this. How long does it actually take to get your permit? Are you losing business because you can’t have one the same day? Are you being undercut by unscrupulous traders who will promise delivery without the need of notifying the Council to get one? I’m sure you all have your own ideas and suggestions and we really do need to hear them. Every e-mail, letter, phone call or fax will go a long way in helping us to help you so please get in touch.
As I repeatedly say, we are YOUR Trade Association and we are your voice .We can only act on information received so take a few minutes to contact me and lets get this petition going.
The link below shows an updated version of Council charges…. if yours isn’t on there, call me and I will add it straight away. We will keep this list on upcoming newsletters.

Red Bull fined record sum for packaging waste offences
A company and its director was ordered to pay over 15,000 GBP in fines and costs for the illegal keeping and treating of thousands of tonnes of waste.
Three men have been arrested as part of the Environment Agency’s ongoing investigations into containers of waste alleged to have been illegally exported to Brazil
Two businesses have been fined a total of £20,000 after hazardous waste residue was left in storage drums sent to a scrap yard.
One thing that all NSHA members have in common is the fundamental need to keep an eye on costs. A member has a commercial business to run and anything affecting the bottom line must be monitored, controlled and minimised.
